Curtain motor data cable control is usually a low voltage control in a smart home.

Low voltage control” is sometimes what we call “weak current control”.
In the context of electrical systems and building infrastructure, Low voltage wiring, wires designed to handle up to 50 volts of electricity, it is defined as 50 volts (V) or less, provide power to a variety of small household electronics. It requires a data cable to transmit the signal.

Curtain Motor data cable control theory as Pulse Signal

1. Please confirm that the controlled data cable open, close, stop are 5V voltage (Common data cable is 0V). Then motor will make 5V voltage for them.

Then let the control system control the curtain motor Open, it will make the pulse signal let the open relay connect for 100ms. Then the open data cable 5V voltage will change to 0V, MCU monitors that the open data cable port is changed to 0V, perform the open action.

If the control system controls the motor Close, the pulse signal will let the Close relay connect for 100ms. Then the Close data cable 5V voltage will change to 0V, MCU monitors that the Close data cable port is changed to 0V, perform the Close action.

If the control system controls the motor Stop, the pulse signal will let the Stop relay connect for 100ms. Then the Stop data cable 5V voltage will change to 0V, MCU monitors that the Stop data cable port is changed to 0V, perform the Stop action.

2. Please confirm whether the control signal is pulse signal. Then pulse signal time should be ≤100ms.

So if one control data cable with multiple motors, make the motor as parallel connection. And if one of the parallel motor has no electricity, it may let the others motor data cable 5V connect with it as change to 0V, causing the signal voltage astable.

If the data cable is too long, it also may cause the 5V Voltage change to be smaller, due to the wrong signal to the MCU.
Because the data cable is too long, it may cause the current resistance to go up, due to the voltage change to smaller even 0V.


Tips: Multiple Motors and Signal Stability

  • When controlling multiple motors with one control data cable, these motors should be connected in parallel.
  • If one of the parallel motors loses power, it may cause the data cable’s 5V to drop to 0V, affecting signal stability.
  • Excessive cable length can also impact signal stability by reducing the 5V voltage due to increased resistance.
  • In such cases, the MCU might receive incorrect signals, leading to operational issues.
